Goodbye America, Hello France
I had the best summer, amazing memories with my family and friends. Studying abroad for four months continued to seem like a dream until it wasn't. Packing up my carefully organized suitcases, spending hours trying to figure out how to weight them in order to not pay the extra charge, and also forcing my dog Gussy to hang out with me any chance I could in order for him to not forget me!
I felt ready to go, I was excited I didn't feel nervous or anxious the day leading up to it or even the day of. On the way to the airport is when it really hit me, I was leaving for four months! The waves of excitement, nervousness, and complete cluelessness followed. I thankfully did not lose my luggage, hit anyone with my large roller bag, or offend anyone with my looks of confusion when they spoke to me in French. I ate more than my fair share of croissants at the airports since that was all I could say/point to.
I landed in La Rochelle Airport, a very small airport located in the West of France. I would be spending my first week in Île de Ré an island near La Rochelle. My amazing extended family invited me to join them on Holiday before they started the school year in London. Having a week of relaxation, pastries, and riding bikes around very picturesque vineyards was an incredible time. If only I could have chosen a study abroad program based on pastries and the beach beaches around France!
The week came and went in the blink of an eye, I was excited for what was to come.
